TimeGate's UE3 shooter is Section 8

Posted on Thursday, 5 May 2005 by Ryuken, source: Shacknews
Gamespy has the word of the new first person shooter, called Section 8, from TimeGate Studios, the lads which previously worked on rts games like Kohan and Axis & Allies. It was already known that this developer was working with the Unreal Engine 3 but now we know on what kind of game.

The targeted platforms are PC and next-gen consoles.

"We are developing a large-scale, futuristic first person shooter that brings strategy and tactics to the first-person shooter genre in a game where players can modify the battlefield on the fly," said Adel Chaveleh, president of TimeGate. "We are going to leverage our knowledge of strategy games and apply it to Section 8's development. We are confident that players will be excited by the results."

The game's title refers to an elite squad of powered armor infantry that serve as the focus of the single-player content. The squad gets its nickname because of its penchant for taking on suicide missions that no one else will tackle.

Chaveleh said that even though the studio is known for its strategy games, it wants to bring that experience to the FPS genre. "This title will be, at its heart, an action-packed FPS. There will be new innovations and elements from strategic titles added to the mix, but the focus is definitely large-scale FPS gameplay," he said. "Everyone at TimeGate loves the FPS genre and we have always wanted to put our trademark 'spin' on that type of game."
An rts-developer going the fps way... hopefully they don't end up like Westwood with C&C: Renegade.
