Tony Blair about Sony vs. the church

The big discussion about Resistance: Fall of Man continues. We already knew the spokespersons of the cathedral of Manchester can't stand the game. Killing gangs of aliens in a church is something you just don't do!

Sony decided to have a conversation with the church community. We still don't know if that has any result, but they're probably having a friendly talk.

In the meantime, Tony Blair has given his opinion. He states the makers of the game have to take their responsibility and have to consider the feelings of others. Moreover, he's concerned about the impact this can have on adolescents.

When asked for his opinion on the issue by Labour MP Tony Lloyd during yesterday's Prime Minister's Questions, Blair replied, "I think it's important that any of the companies engaged in promoting these types of goods have some sense of responsibility and also some sensitivity to the feelings of others. This is an immensely difficult area, the relationship between what happens with these games and its impact on young people. I think it is important that people understand there is a wider social responsibility as well as an interior responsibility for profits."

Maybe we can start focusing on important things again now?

I don't get it. Isn't it a perfectly christian thing to kill aliens that are threatening the integrity of the dear religion?

"Maybe we can start focusing on important things again now?"

The whole point of Politicians stepping in on the Church's side is to:
a) Gain support, and
b) Distract people.

They don't want you to think about the budget deficits, or the dangerously high value of the pounds on the balance of payments, or the fact that britains debt per capita is higher than Americas, or the failure in Iraq, or the inadequate actions against pollution, or all the other ways in which the British ruling elite have screwed up over the last decade. No. They want you to keep thinking that killing imaginary aliens in a Church within the virtual environment of a video game is in any way going to cause an issue greater than the currently unresolved ones.

This is politics. It's got nothing to do with reason. Or rather it does, in that any Politicians main goal is to get elected and then not do his job without suffering the consequences, hence pervert reason in the eyes of the electorate.

As to the Church, all they care about is publicity to get more braindead followers and donations to fill their coffers even more so that they can decorate their churches with even more gold and art. Because of course their God would really appreciate churches built of gold while half of the world's population is in deplorable conditions, many starving.

Its pathetic that SO MANY PEOPLE still think the church is anything more than a bureacracy interested in power, money, and influence over people. They giive their money, their time, their faith, their trust, into a middle man between them and god that pretends that he's something more than the others are.

/end rant.

Don't just single Christians out. Every religion except maybe Buddhism has done that.

That's very true, and it was never my intention.
