U.S. Navy: gaming makes you a better soldier

The U.S. Navy has cooked up a new report in which we can all read that "Adults Benefit from Playing Video Games". Or to say it differently: gaming is good for you!

Dr. Ray Perez believes that gamers are better suited to adapt to the changing circumstances of a battlefield.
"We have discovered that videogame players perform 10 to 20 per cent higher in terms of perceptual and cognitive ability than normal people that are non-game-players. We know that videogames can increase perceptual abilities and short-term memory."

"We have to train people to be quick on their feet, agile problem solvers, agile thinkers – to be able to counteract and develop counter-tactics to terrorists on the battlefield. It’s really about human inventiveness and creativeness and being able to match wits with the enemy."
That training in "fluid intelligence" up to now seemed to be difficult after the age of 20 but it seems games have the power to temporarily makes people's brains a bit more flexible and improve the focus on stimuli.
"We think that these games increase your executive control, or your ability to focus and attend to stimuli in the outside world."
That's why he's continuing to work to identify specific areas in the brains that are responsible for this, and at the same time introduce games in the Navy training program. An example of that is a module where players are set in a cave in an artificial world and have to interact with AI to complete a mission successfully.
"I think we're at the beginning of a new science of learning that will be the integration of neuroscience with developmental psychology, with cognitive science, and with artificial intelligence."
Now we only have to work on that remarkably bad physical condition of ours!

Why not use it for teaching Arabic? You are in Iraq, victory depends on contacting Sunni elders. You have to talk to them.

BTW - Games are already used for the teaching of Maths.
