Ubi relaxes its DRM?

Posted on Saturday, 1 January 2011 by Speed, source: Reddit
Ubisoft Entertainment, who started annoying gamers with their new DRM that needs a permanent internet connection in order to play (even offline), seems to have seen the light.

Reddit is reporting that new patches released for several Ubisoft games have removed the need to be online when playing them in singleplayer. They have screenshots for Tom Clancy Splinter Cell: Conviction as well as Assassin's Creed 2 being played in offline mode without internet connectivity.
Recently a patch was released which removes the necessity for some Ubisoft games to have an Internet connection to be played. Here is a screenshot from Assassin's Creed 2 and another for Splinter Cell: Conviction showing the games being played with no connection.

You still require an Internet connection to authenticate when the game is booted.
Sounds like a good start for 2011, no?

Unfortunately you still have to log on to their servers every time you start to play a game to verify it. So it's an improvement, but not by much, as you still require an internet connection to be able to play their games.

yup, it's still not great, but at least it won't tamper with your gameplay experience anymore.
