Ubisoft drops StarForce protection for HoMM V

Ubisoft Producer Fabrice Cambournet (aka MuadDib) has confirmed on the official Heroes of Might & Magic V forums that their turnbased strategy game won't use StarForce anymore.

StarForce is utilised on quite a number of games to counter the illegal copying of these titles. Although it sometimes also has its negative influences on certain pieces of hardware, even when the game with StarForce is uninstalled. So, Ubisoft will probably continue this remarkable move for their other PC titles (a French Ubisoft community manager seemed to confirm this also).

A demo of HoMMV will be put online next week.

I suggest they give up; it is inevitable that it will be hacked eventually.
Why annoy customers and degrade their systems in the mean time?

Smart move, I'm one of those who'll never buy a game with starforce. So this is good news.
