Ubisoft talks about Avatar's shortcomings
Saying Ubisoft's game adaptation of the movie Avatar hasn't wowed critics to the same extent as it's cinematic counterpart is an understatement. On MetaCritic.com the game only managed to claw itself a way to a meagre 63%.
As it should be, Ubisoft has some ideas about why the game failed to live up to its expectations. Ubisoft CEO Guillemot sums it up;
Towards the future this mainly means Ubisoft will be a lot less inclined to invest in licenses for game adaptations of upcoming movies. Especially not when these movies are due to come out in December. Reason for this is amongst others the short development cycle typically associated with such titles, not to mention the big license costs.

"We knew we were taking [some risk]. The fact that the movie was coming in December was a potential problem. We thought the game would continue to sell after the new year,"
The problem then was that the game didn't keep on selling through the new year.
