only with internet connection
Ubisoft Entertainment has decided to no longer use the StarForce digital rights management software package, but instead will be taking matter into their own hands.

With all their PC games, players will need an internet connection that's connected whenever they want to play a game. A verification method on Ubi.com will make sure you're not playing some illegal copy. The good thing is that you won't need your CD sitting in your drive and you'll have unlimited installs. On top of that Ubisoft will be keeping save games on their servers so that you can continue from any PC you want.

The company's Brent Wilkinson told Gamespy he doesn't expect any problems nor consumer protest. The service has already been put to use with the beta of Settlers 7.
"We think most people are going to be fine with it. Most people are always connected to an internet connection"
CEO Yves Guillemot earlier stated the following:
On the PC the piracy is quite a lot. We are working on a tool that would allow us to decrease that on the PC starting next year and probably one game this year."
The PC version of Assassin's Creed 2 is expected March 5th. Let's wait and see what gamers will really say on having to be connected online.

It's too bad that UBI.com is freaking horrible. That website blows badly. Seriously, go register. You'll quickly find out that the register button you think is to make an account is the button to register a product, so then you cant use that email to register an account.

When you do get registered (which is not even close to clearly marked), you go to the forums, it say sLogin, so you go to login, but it says your already logged in, but the forums show you arent.

Thats just a couple of frustrations. They have not set their site up for ease of use at all.
