Valve: "Piracy isn't a pricing issue"
Valve Software's Gabe Newell is partially right.
In a new interview, the man stated that piracy isn't a problem of pricing but rather an issue of service. Of making sure you provide consumers a better service than they're getting from pirates.
On the other hand: pricing is still an issue as well. Lower your prices and you'll see more copies actually sold. It's therefore a matter of finding the right balance between price and copies sold to get the highest revenue. Having standard pricing for all games depending on a platform will definitely NOT deliver the highest revenue possible.

“One thing that we have learned is that piracy is not a pricing issue. It’s a service issue,”
“The easiest way to stop piracy is not by putting antipiracy technology to work. It’s by giving those people a service that’s better than what they’re receiving from the pirates.”
“For example, Russia. You say, oh, we’re going to enter Russia, people say, you’re doomed, they’ll pirate everything in Russia.
“The people who are telling you that Russians pirate everything are the people who wait six months to localize their product into Russia. So that as far as we’re concerned is asked and answered. It doesn’t take much in terms of providing a better service to make pirates a non-issue.”
I partially agree with that because he's completely right about the service part. If you're a legit customer, you're being harassed these days with anti-piracy measures on videogames, and tons of ads when buying f.i. DVD's or Blu-ray discs. If you pirate, that's all gone and so is the irritation.“The easiest way to stop piracy is not by putting antipiracy technology to work.
