Valve explains Episode 3 development time

Posted on Friday, 17 October 2008 by daffeh, source: Fragland
After the upsetting news of Half-Life 2: Episode 3 comping out near an estimated 2010, Shacknews got a hold of the source of the commotion, Doug Lombardi.

He tries to explain why Episode 3 will take so long and he sees it as a natural evolution because they are trying to 'tell more story' which takes time. To add to that delay, Left 4 Dead and Team Fortress 2 took a lot of time and care from the team, so it's not like they have been messing around
So I mean, we're taking more time because it's a more ambitious project. We also sort of had Left 4 Dead become this big thing in the middle of it that we wanted to spend more time on, and you've just got a lot of stuff that we spent this year doing with Team Fortress 2 updates and what have you. So there's just a lot going on, and then an ambitious project on top of it caused the schedule to move out a little bit from the delta of the last three releases in the franchise.
If Episode 3 is as good as Episode 2 and tells even more story, I'm more than happy to wait.
