Valve sueing cheat websites

Posted on Wednesday, 23 June 2004 by Speed, source: Fragland
Counter-hack is reporting that Valve has started sueing websites that have cheats for Counter-Strike
Valve, finally, is now possibly taking legal actions against community cheat sites. First to be struck down by this were the makers of OGC who are now seeking legal advice on the situation. Several sites have now been shut down by Valve or possibly out of fear.
Ok, this is a rather awkward news item. First of all, I'm happy that Valve is doing something against the cheating in their games.
On the other hand, I've got a couple of questions... Why did it take them soooooooo long before taking action ?
And isn't it strange we keep hearing about Valve sueing people lately ? Looks like after years of keeping quiet, they've been doing nothing but consulting lawyers and are now hitting around in full force against anything and anyone that just *might* do something against their stuff (or earn something of it - remember the cybercafe that got sued because visitors would play Counter-Strike while the cafe didn't have a commercial license for it ?)

They are completely right to do this. Those cheats can kill a game, and if you as consumer buy a game, and can't play it properly online, buying the game becomes actually a waste of money, no?

While that's true HeLLgUy, remember than they will be releaseing Counter-Strike Source either with, or shortly after Half-Life 2. I can see how that would bring back alot of old (and some new) CS players. Cheating could easily become a big issue. Best to push them down before the launch of Half-Life 2 as opposed to trying to clean up the mess after cheats are everywhere.
