Valve to kill Gordon Freeman?
In this week's CNN's Game Over Column there's word that Valve is planning to kill one of the main characters of Half-Life in Episode 2
Never noticed that Half-Life 2 was a serialized narrative... DUH!
It also lets them take some risks. For example, in the next episode of "Half-Life 2" (due in the first quarter of next year) Valve plans to kill off one of the franchise's regular characters.
Making such a move, particularly with characters that have become beloved in a major franchise is a risky one. But Newell said by introducing such a shocking twist, it can help the "Half-Life" story from becoming "just another watered-down serialized narrative."
"I think we want them to care about these characters and want them to trust that we're doing something smart with these stories," he said. "We want them to be genuinely be worried about the characters, so you won't think 'Well they won't do something to these characters, because they're too important.' If nothing matters, then nothing you do matters - and you're moving away from being in a world and back to being in a shooting gallery."

seemed to sum up my experience with hl2.

Just one of several possible paths...

I feel the same way.
HL 2 was one of the most overrated games of history.

However, if Alyx becomes the main character, you wouldn't be seeing her anymore since it's an FPS. Unless they put up a ton of mirrors in Episode 3 of course ;)

I agree the SP was an ok game but I only ever did it once. We are expecting next gen games like Crysis. Why arent they making HL3 instead of money making sequels?

There was an interview with one of Valve's top guys (Gabe Newell ?) not so long ago, where he admitted that the HL2 sequels were in fact HL3 and since it would take some ten years to make HL3...but then, Gabe's not the most reliable charactor around IMO...

Yeah, they are doing 3 episodes right now because they want to try it out, it gives them more freedom to do what they want, they claim.
