Valve's Source engine not so state-of-the-art ?
Over at City17 is an article where they take a look at the Source Engine from Valve which will be used for Half-Life 2 and apparantly the engine isn't all that fancy as people might think
As you can see, the Combine Soldier's foot is sticking through the foot of his dead partner, which leads many to believe that even in Half-Life 2, a model's boundaries are still defined by the skeleton, and not the model itself. Quite a disappointment, considering this bug is over 5 years old, and it still hasn't been addressed.
Yet another very displeasing thing I noticed in one of the Half-Life 2 screenshots was that landscapes will still probably be very "edgy," just as in the original.
So what do you think ? Is Valve trying to capture us all with some fancy lighting effects which make old games look really cool or will they indeed deliver something extraordinary ?Yet another very displeasing thing I noticed in one of the Half-Life 2 screenshots was that landscapes will still probably be very "edgy," just as in the original.
