WMP helps WOW to load quicker?

There's a rumour that Windows Media Player makes loading times in World of Warcraft shorter.

Letting WMP run on the background while playing WoW also makes the game start up 20 seconds quicker. A possible reason could be the fact that applications in the background act differently while the mediaplayer is active.

Funnily enough, my friend told me about this 2 nights ago, it's apparently something to do with an IO setting changing from 115ms without WMP to 1ms with WMP open.

The most likely explanation is that your AUDIO libraries are loaded by WMP, and therefore WoW does not need to load them.

The time you save from loading WoW is wasted on time it takes to load WMP.

You save about 10 seconds. So unless you have WMP open often, it is hardly worth doing it.
