War Of The Ring Interview

Posted on Friday, 11 July 2003 by peng, source: Fragland
HomeLan has posted an extensive interview with members of Liquid Entertainment, about their upcoming RTS-game set in the J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings Universe.
HomeLAN - What can you tell us about the playable sides in the game?

Liquid Entertainment - The two sides in the game are the Free Peoples of Middle-earth (the good side) and the Minions of Sauron (the evil side). The Free Peoples of Middle-earth consist of a selection of all the characters and creatures that were on the side of good in Lord of the Rings. Represented are the Dwarves, Elves, Humans, Huorns and Beornings. Also, there are the heroes who are Frodo, Gimli, Legolas, Aragorn, and Gandalf. The Minions of Sauron are a selection of the forces of evil from Lord of the Rings. Represented are Orcs, trolls, wargs, giant spiders, the Haradrim, and the Nazgul. The heroes on the evil side are Gollum, Grishnakh, Qamara (a Haradrim we invented), the Lord of the Nazgul, and Saruman.

The basic gameplay theory behind the sides is that the good side has fewer units and expands more slowly, but their units are more powerful. The evil side is more about expanding quickly and using horde tactics, but their units aren’t as powerful.
