Warner Bros chooses Blu-Ray
Posted on Saturday, 5 January 2008 by Desertwolf, source: Reuters
This was released yesterday in a statement to the press. Until now the company released movies on both Blu-Ray and HV-DVD discs. Starting from May, however, they will exclusively make use of the Blu-Ray technology which is a heavy blow for HD-DVD. Blu-Ray already had the support of big company’s like Walt Disney and 20th Century Fox.
Sony’s direct competitor Microsoft on the other hand has chosen for the HD-DVD technology. While their Xbox 360 is currently doing much better than Sony’s Playstation 3, it seems Microsoft is losing the war of the new DVD formats.
"The window of opportunity for high-definition DVD could be missed if format confusion continues to linger. We believe that exclusively distributing in Blu-ray will further the potential for mass market success and ultimately benefit retailers, producers, and most importantly, consumers," Warner Bros Chairman and Chief Executive Barry Meyer said in a statement.
Good news for Sony, since most big companies in the movies industry now support Blu-Ray except for Universal and Paramount and this can only have a positive influence on the sales of their Playstation 3 console. These are after all equipped with Blu-Ray players.Sony’s direct competitor Microsoft on the other hand has chosen for the HD-DVD technology.
