Warner to end HD-DVD/BluRay war?
VNUNet is reporting that Warner Bros has applied for a patent for a single disc that can hold both HD-DVD, BluRay and DVD content.
This would be a great way for publishers to cut costs as all formats would be on one disc. Consumers just get what's best for them qua hardware and would still be able to enjoy all content.
I wonder whether Sony and Microsoft will be happy to see a thing like this as it may interfere with their plans of pushing their technology...
Warner explained that it will create a disc with a Blu-ray top layer which also acts as a two-way mirror reflecting enough blue light to be read by a Blu-ray player.
The technology will also let through sufficient light for an HD-DVD player to disregard the Blu-ray recording and locate the HD-DVD layer underneath. The reverse of the disc would carry an ordinary DVD recording.
