Warner to take over THQ?

THQ saw its stock price rise on Tuesday as rumours about a possible takeover started to emerge. Probable buyer according to those rumours: Warner.

Warner has recently taken over a large part of the bankrupt Midway after buying Traveller's Tales in 2007. Although the company is investing quite heavily in the gaming industry lately, a real top game hasn't seen the light yet.

Getting their hands on another major publisher might be a quick and easy way in, which makes THQ, who have the WWE game licence, an interesting target.

Although "insiders" are fueling the rumours of a takeover, analysts remain quite sceptical:

MKM Partners analyst Eric Handler remarked that THQ takeover is unlikely in the short term, citing that the company is still at the early stages of rebuilding its IP portfolio.
