Whoops@Microsoft: Xbox Live accounts lost when e-mail expires
Posted on Thursday, 19 February 2009 by daffeh, source: GameIndustry.biz
GamesIndustry.biz brings us report of a serious glitch in the matrix over at Microsoft. According to this article there is a certain bug that is responsible for some users having to start over with their account.
Apparently the base cause is expiring e-mail accounts linked to the Xbox Live account. It seems that there are quite some users using a Windows Live Mail (HotMail) account just for logging into Xbox Live and those buggers expire after 120 days of inactivity.
When the e-mail address expires it is deactivated together with any Xbox Live account linked to it. This leaves the users unable to change the Live ID or renew their Gold Subscription.
Microsoft is investigating the issue but at the moment the only working remedy is to start over again using your 'preferred e-mail address'.
I can already imagine the immense e-dramas going on right now with hardcore gamers who lose the last few years of their active life. Jolly!
