Why reviews are subjective
Gamerdad's latest Long Shot column takes a look at how fanboys tend to react to reviews
All the reviewer has is his own built in preferences for gaming. But this idea conflicts with the ideas of people who believe game reviews can be arrived at objectively. I think it's technology that drives this. So many folks believe the pieces that create the game, because of the technology used (good or bad), define how good it can or can't be. If we were to review a car, often times there is little in the way of subjective opinion. The engine is more powerful in car A than it is in car B so hence car A is better. Car A has leather interior while car B has cheap vinyl. Car A wins! Lots of folks see games through a filter just like this. DOOM 3 has the most powerful game engine and so it MUST get a better review than a game with lesser technology, right?
As always, certainly worth reading :)In other news:

That means that the gameplay and storyline would be the same, just with better graphics and sound. Multiplayer would only consist of some Deathmatch and nothing more.
What did you expect ? It's the same game as the original but just upgraded. You shouldn't have expected more.

For me Far Cry is still king pin in 2004 FPS world. 8)
ps: Sorry for expecting more. Surely, the media did not hype Doom 3 whatsoever. :D

In doom3, I dont find the fun i used to have when playing doom1&2. It is all about switching as fast as you can between the flashlight and a gun. That's all you do ... flashlight ... gun ... ennemies dead ... flashligth ... :)
On the other hand, if doom3 could makes pc selling goes up, and if editors see that there still is a pc gaming market :)
