Why the Xbox 360 arrived early according to Moore
Posted on Wednesday, 17 September 2008 by daffeh, source: The Guardian
After admitting to killing the Dreamcast, Peter Moore arrived at his Microsoft period. In the third part of the interview over at The Guardian he went into detail on running the original Xbox show.
At the very end there is a small surprise when he more or less explained why the Xbox was swapped so soon for next-gen 360.
With this series of interview it's becoming even more clear to me that Mr. Moore is either full of himself or really did define a big part of the current game landscape.

"And in the same way, not having a hard drive in every Xbox 360 was a hard decision, but we wanted to get price under control. The hard drive in every Xbox killed us; we we're still selling it at $199 and the hard drive was like $70. That's why we prematurely left the original Xbox, because the more we were selling – there was still great demand – it was killing us, and there was no way to bring the price down."
I knew that the original Xbox wasn't very cheap but back then it was clearly stated several times that they were making money on every console after the last price drops. My guess was that the early launch of the 360 was more strategy than necessity.
