Wii costs exposed

Posted on Friday, 15 December 2006 by Speed, source: Toyokeizai.net
Over at Toyokeizai (Japanese) is a stripdown of the costs Nintendo has for every part that's included in the console

Here we go:

Graphics chip: $29.60
CPU: $13.00
DRAM: $7.80
Optical disk drive: $31.00
Power supply: $11.30
Manufacturing cost: $19.50
Cost total: $158.30
Wholesale price: $195.99

If this is correct, Nintendo is making profit on each console sold and a lot of top managers at the company will be very pleased knowing that they're the only ones not losing cash on hardware :)

(not that this comes as a surprise of course)

Of course, but the fact is that all those same costs are also present for the Xbox and PS3, except they don't actually make a profit on the hardware :P
