Wii-mote and iPhone control robots
Soon you can do more then just using the Wii-mote to control your vehicle in the fantastic Mario Kart Wii, because the military has found some new uses for it.
Packbot, a robot specifically designed to detonate mines and explosives on the battlefield will receive some new controls. For now the user of the robot had to rely on a joystick or a classic controller. The developers of the robot will now make adjustments, so that it can also be used with the Wii-mote. The screens will also be displayed through an iPhone and not a large and cumbersome display.

Packbot is capable of some autonomous tasks, but is usually remote-controlled by a "joypad" similar to the controller used with most video games consoles, or a traditional joystick. The Wiimote is far more intuitive because movements of the hand directly translate into movements of the robot. Bruemmer says it should allow soldiers to control the robots more instinctively, freeing them up to pay closer attention to the incoming sensor data
Thanks to the innovating controls, soldiers would have more time for other pressing matters. Let's just hope they improve the accuracy of the controller, because otherwise they might have a serious problem. The pair also plan to harness the iPhone for military use. As an alternative to lugging a laptop around, Few and Bruemmer plan to modify the Packbot to transmit footage compatible with the palm-sized iPhone
What is stopping Nintendo from making a game about this?In other news:
