The Xbox360 and PS3 have both had one or more price drops up to now, but the much cheaper (to produce) Wii still has its original price tag of 250 euros. Relatively a lot of money if you can buy an Xbox360 for the same amount, or only have to add a little for a PS3.

Nintendo, however, apparently is planning to take something off the price of its console. According to leaked information by retailer Wallmart in the US, a cheaper version is set to arive the first week of October.

The timing for such a drop wouldn't be bad, the Wii after all has been on the market for quite some time and sales are starting to slow down. A price drop combined with the release of some top titles announced at E3 might turn that trend upwards again.

Nintendo is participating at the Kyoto Cross Media Experience 2009 which runs from September 26th to October 4th and an announcement there seems quite obvious, if the rumours are true. For now, Nintendo choses to give "no comment".
