WoW beta registration open ... but ...

Posted on Thursday, 29 January 2004 by t20, source: Fragland
... applicants must be U.S. or Canadian residents and must be 18 years of age or older. ...
So that leaves out what ... half of our visitors? not only our visitors, even us!
Participants will be selected on a random basis, so you will have the same chance of getting into the World of Warcraft® Beta regardless of when you decide to sign up during the one (1) week application period. We are not taking applications on a "first-come, first-serve basis."
The World of Warcraft® Beta test has the following requirements:
  • A 56K or higher modem with an internet connection.
  • You must have a valid e-mail address (yahoo & hotmail addresses will not be accepted).
Windows® System/OS:
  • 800 Mhz or higher CPU.
  • 256 Megabytes or more of RAM.
  • Geforce 2 Graphics Card or better.
  • 3 Gigabytes or more of available hard drive space.
  • DirectX® 9.0 or above.
Mac® System/OS:
  • 1.0 GHz or higher, G4 or G5 processor.
  • 512 Megabytes RAM or higher. DDR RAM recommended.
  • ATI or NVIDIA video hardware with 64 MB VRAM or more.
  • 3 Gigabytes or more of available hard drive space.
  • MacOS X 10.3 ("Panther") or better

In addition, Windows users should note that you will be prompted to download an ActiveX file during the registration process that will provide Blizzard with the system configuration of the computer from which you apply and intend to play the World of Warcraft® beta. Specifically, Blizzard will only be recording CPU, RAM, operating system, video card, and sound card information from your computer. Your system configuration data will be linked with your personal registration data. The reason we are collecting this information is to make sure that we select users with a wide variety of hardware configurations that meet the minimum requirements to participate in the Beta test. By submitting your application, you hereby acknowledge that the aforementioned data will be collected and grant Blizzard permission to collect such data.

You can go and signup here, if you're resident in the US or CANADA

Previous post: first reaction on their policy... but I can understand their decision: a world wide beta-testing is a lot of work, so they keep it 'local': testing hours become easier to monitor... quite reasonable!

I dunno AlterEgo....

if they would have let europeans beta-test too, a lot more people would become aware of the game. Because yes, there are still people out there that do not know of the existence of WoW ;)
