WoW encounters fraude plague

Illegal accounts? Who knows..
World of Warcraft has encountered yet another type problems. After the Gold Farmers, gamers that collect as much gold as possible to sell it over the internet, the Gold Frauders have arrived.

More and more creditcardnumbers are being stolen and with them, the frauders pay for WoW accounts. The British bank Halifax has even suspended all payments towards Blizzard for as long as this problem remains active.
Now we have a problem. And it is not gold farmers. Banks don't like chargebacks. High risk/ high fraud markets (the adult industry and gambling) pay a substantial premium for payment processing. If fraud gets too bad, payment processors will simply refuse to service companies. The also will impose additional procedures to combat fraud - all of which cost money.

The first consequence for the entire game industry will be a broad increase in payment processing fees. New game providers will face difficulty entering the market as most payment processors will refuse to work with them.

Subscription gaming is in trouble. While the free-to-play business model has been pitched by many as a good strategy, it is going to become necessary in a higher payment processing world
I'm curious if these serious crimes will affect other MMO's as well.

Wait so people are pretending to sell gold to steal credit card numbers, to pay for their WoW account?

Sounds... kind of stupid.

No, just people are stealing credit cards, not from gold selling, but in real life theft.

They then use these accounts as gold 'traffickers', that ship the money around to protect their bot farmers.

You'll also notice random accounts advertising for gold-farming websites in the major cities on your sever. Those accounts get banned very rapidly so it is only economical to make such an account with someone elses money. Hence another reason to do the above.

Actually your wrong on that one, they use trial accounts to spam people for gold farming websites, thats why there all level 1 and can only spam over regular chat as opposed to whispers or channels.
