XBox360 Backwards compatible after all ?

Posted on Thursday, 28 April 2005 by Speed, source: The Inquirer
The Inquirer is reporting that a questionnaire taken online through XBox Live suggests that Microsoft's next console will be backwards compatible after all... IF you buy the optional hard drive.

The questionnaire deals with Xbox Live and says subscribers through the original Xbox will be able to play against gamers on Xbox 2 -- as long as they are playing a current generation Xbox game.

"Xbox Live is an online gaming service that works across both the current Xbox system and the future Xbox 2. You will be able to play online and compete against others across both consoles. If you are playing an Xbox game on Live you will be able to compete against people playing that same game on Xbox 2".

So XBox games will run on "XBox 2".

The hard drive comes in because the original Xbox had one and the games are written to use one.

Cheap! microsoft you are going to lose alot of sales to this and alot of people are going to be angry, and worse still you will push those people to the ps3.

XBOX 2 is always going to play second fiddle to PS3 anyway. This is only going to make things worse.

I agree with the first anonymous about losing business if the next X-box isn't backwards compatible, but it costs money to install that, so will you pay the extra cash? Also, X-box is extremely above playstation as far as graphics and play...only time on the market does the ps2 beat x-box. I even started on ps2 and then shifted to x-box after many dissappointments by sony.

personaly i like xbox more than ps2 and i will probably get xbxo 360, i think that microsoft should include backwards capability but if they dont i'll still by xbox 360.
i mean ps2's graphics dont compare to xbox's and the new systems will be the same way as far as graphics. i meen how many times do you really play ps1 games on ps2, almost never.

To me all that matters on this is "how much money is the hardrive?" and "does it cost money to install it?". If the harddrive is 30$ or under and it costs nothing to install it then it would be a big deal to me i guess. I would MUCH rather it come backwards compatible though....
