Xbox 360 launched on MTV

Posted on Monday, 11 April 2005 by Mario, source: Brandweek.com
Rumours surrounding the release of Xbox' next generation console, the Xbox 360 are being spread daily and since it's a new day, we've got another one in store for you.

This time it's said that the Xbox 360 is to be launched on MTV on May 12. The still nameless show will last half an hour. But they already have a host, namely no other than actor Elijah Wood. The rock band "The Killers" will also be performing on the show and numerous athletes and celebs will present the new features to the viewers.
The show will be shown on all MTV stations around the world.

Normally all new consoles are first shown at E3 in May but Microsoft thinks it's best to be earlier.

Peter Moore, corporate vp-worldwide marketing and publishing for Microsoft states: "It doesn't make sense to unveil the product behind a closed door, at a trade-only event. We wanted to talk directly to the consumer first,"

This seems like a rather fast response to Sony, who stated they'll be showing off their PS3 earlier than the Xbox 360. Well think again Sony, as Microsoft is the earliest bird out there.

I believe it is a 30 minute show not an hour and a half as stated in the article above. There is also news that Microsoft has gone with a white colour for the new machine and controllers.

I don't really agree with Peter Moores reasoning IF it is a true and correct quote by Brandweek.

Nearly all new products in all different sectors are shown to a trade-only audience first. The consumer does not get any info on the product untill the hype and/or marketing campagne has started.

I don't know... IF this is true... then Moore makes me feel quite useless as a journalist... Why should I take the trip to E3 ?
