Xbox 360 making the gap with the PS3, still comes in second

Posted on Friday, 14 November 2008 by daffeh, source: Shacknews
October was a good month for the Xbox 360 as it nearly doubled the sales from main competitor Playstation 3. The fight for 'best true next-gen console' is still being fought at a very, very long distance from that not so true next-gen entertainment machine called the Wii. The sales numbers for Nintendo's little cash machine are still insane.
1. Wii - 803,000 units
2. Nintendo DS - 491,000 units
3. Xbox 360 - 371,000 units
4. PSP - 193,000 units
5. PlayStation 3 - 190,000 units
6. PlayStation 2 - 136,000 units
Although the PSP made some nice improvements and recently became a profitable platform for SONY, it is still being thrashed by Nintendo's DS so that a double thumbs up for the 'Big N'.

Even though there is a worldwide crisis, both hardware and software sales are still rising with a 5% and a whopping 38% increase, totalling the US video game revenue to $1.31 billion. Take that CD industry!

I love how everyone ignored the word FUTURE in my comment. You all act as if I said digital downloads are taking over today. Obviously, that isn't the case. It will be the case in about 5 years from now, though. As far as present goes, Blu-Ray will never surpass DVD as a movie format. No one cares. Unless you are a videophile (What are there, about 100,000 of them across the country?), there is no noticeable difference in picture quality between an upscaled DVD and and Blu-Ray. It is what it is. As one poster above me stated, Blu-Ray, and its insanely high price is holding back the PS3. Sony is done as a console maker. This will be evident when Xbox 720 ships in 2010, and competes with a vastly inferior PS3. Blu-Ray, as it turns out, will have only one use. It will be a data storage medium. That isn't what the crumbling Sony had in mind when they invested billions upon billions into it. Maybe Microsoft will by Sony for their name. That's the only chance Sony fans have, if they want to buy a Sony product in the future. Well, off to play the great Gears of War 2. What does PS3 have to play again? Oh yeah, garbage.

BTW you Microsoft hack, either you have never seen a Blu-Ray or are just talking out of your ass. The picture quality between a Blu-Ray and an upscaled DVD is very noticeable. The Blu Ray blows away any format of date. What does the XBOX do? Consistantly drain your wallet for a marginal online experience. Are you employed by Microsoft or something? ASSHOLE!

The picture difference is barely noticeable. It is a known fact.
That is why no one is buying standalone Blu-Ray players. Upscaling DVD players are destroying standalone Blu-Ray players in sales. The only reason Blu-Ray is still alive is because of the PS3, and once that has fully failed, Blu-Ray and PS3 will officially be UMD and PSP. No one cares. Get over it.

Owning both systems (360 and PS3) what the fuck are you talking about? PS3 is the loser? Inferior what? The graphics are better on the PS3, it has a Blu-Ray player, a nicer interface, and I don't have to pay to play online. Sony may have come in late but have been consistantly outselling the 360 as of late. The Wii may the be the best selling system but it by no means the "best system" for gamers. Microsofts systems will always be the "Showtime" to Sony's "HBO". I like the XBOX, but come on dude...it's not a Sony..

The graphics are not better on the PS3. This is known, and has been known for a long time. First of all, every time any major gamer site does a comparison, the PS3 gets destroyed. All PS3 trolls have to say is, "Well, the developers haven't taken advantage of the PS3's Cell yet." Listen fools, the PS3 is 2 years old. It is what it is. If they were going to take advantage of the Cell (which has nothing to do with graphics anyway), they'd have done it by now. But, you can't do what can't be done, since as I said, the Cell has absolutely nothing to do with graphics. That is what the inferior RSX chip is for. The 360 has better graphics, just face it.

Here is the industry accepted, unbiased, end all argument article on the XBOX 360's graphics chip being superior:

dpad.gotfrag.com/portal/story/35372/?spage=2

That article was written 2 years ago. Yes, it has been known the 360 is graphically superior for that long. Anyone who tries to dispute this article is wrong. The End.

In case you guys don't feel like reading the entire article, here is the page that factually explains why Xenos is superior to RSX.

dpad.gotfrag.com/portal/story/35372/?spage=7

This is reality, and this is why the 360 keeps winning in graphics whenever they compare games.
