Xbox Live down on October 17

Xbox Live addicts will have to find something else to do on October 17. That day, Microsoft will do some maintenance tasks on the network so it will be not be possible to game online for a couple of hours:

The company is quick to point out that the reason for the downtime is maintenance and not the fall dashboard update. However, Microsoft does say that they are "adding some cool stuff," but would not divulge exactly what was being added. Both Xbox.com and Xbox Live may be down for up to 24 hours.

As a reward for your patience, you will get some 'cool stuff', but don't expect too much, it's just maintenance.

I am so mad. My plants are dying in FFXI !!

This was so poorly planned. Someone needs to get fired! They should have realized that there are gamers playing FFXI who only need to login and do nothing on XBOX live. THey should have put a banner with big: DOWN NEXT TUESDAY message just like their dam Artist of the month krap !

Down for 24 hours is unacceptable. THey should have had a mirrored system, upgraded that and flipped the switch. A couple of hours is acceptable. No notice and 24 hours is not!!!!

Why don't they just ship broomsticks to us all and tell us where to put them?
