Activision wants more money from CoD online
Activision boss Tom Tippl has stated that his company has plenty of plans for the Call of Duty series, amongst which there are new modes and most of all more ways to cash in on it. Especially the online gameplay is supposed to become a cash cow and for that they're looking at their neighbours Blizzard, and the other way around.
The lack of dedicated servers could only upset a small group of the small community that PC gamers have become and it's now a game of wait and see whether these decisions will have a bad influence on the longer term success of the series.
In that regards, my bet for now stands on "no".
It's definitely an aspiration that we see potential in, particularly as we look at different business models to monetise the online gameplay. There's good knowledge exchange happening between the Blizzard folks and our online guys.
We have great experience also on Call of Duty with the success we had on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. A lot of that knowledge is getting actually built into the Battle.Net platform and the design of that.
I think it's been mutually beneficial, and you should expect us to test and ultimately launch additional online monetisation models of some of some of our biggest franchises like Call of Duty.
He's also not afraid that fans of the series will be all but happy with this strategy. According to him gamers are asking for more services and innovation they've haven't yet received, and are willing to pay for that.We have great experience also on Call of Duty with the success we had on Xbox Live and PlayStation Network. Our gamers are telling us there's lots of services and innovation they would like to see that they're not getting yet.
From what we see so far, additional content, as well as all the services Blizzard is offering, is that there is demand from the core gamers to pay up for that.
Some can now protest or start up crazy petitions and boycots, but you only have to take a glimpse at the sales figures of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 to realize that Activision - Blizzard doesn't care one bit about that. This successor has become an overwhelming success with numbers that pale even GTA IV.From what we see so far, additional content, as well as all the services Blizzard is offering, is that there is demand from the core gamers to pay up for that.

Could someone please shoot every person that is trying to kill the PC platform, or changing what it was before MW2 got out!

The fact that apparently only 10% of revenue on MW2 is generated on PC already says a lot.
And yes, 200.000 people have signed the petition against MW2 but when looking at how many PC gamers there are internationally, I wouldn't call that a lot.
It sucks but the big companies (Activision, Microsoft, ...) are indeed killing PC gaming
