EA Sports launches its own VISA card

Buy EA Sports stuff with points earned on your EA Sports Visa card
As if we haven't seen the biggest financial crisis due to overspending in years, Electronic Arts has decided it might be a good idea to launch its own credit card.

The idea: you buy stuff with your VISA (so on credit) and in return you get points you can spend on EA products:
"The EA Sports DebitSmart Visa Prepaid Card is a great opportunity for us to offer our community of loyal customers a new way to purchase and save on their favourite EA Sports game titles," commented Todd Sitrin, VP of global marketing at EA SPORTS.

"Consumers use the card while making their everyday purchases and are rewarded with EA Sports videogames. This program is a perfect marriage of encouraging responsible spending while providing a unique reward program."
To be honest, I find this a really BAD idea. The current crisis is the best proof that buying on credit is something to be careful with and starting initiatives like these is again big corporations trying to make some money on the back of people who don't know any better.

uh - this is not a credit card. it is a prepaid card like the debit card you get with a checking account except that you can't overdraw it. this is a much better tool than a credit card.

Its basically a cash gift card that can be used anywhere that Visa is accepted. Its become more popular in the US in the past couple years.

American express is another company that offers these prepaid debit cards, which are basically cash gift cards.
