Games are bigger than movies in the UK

Posted on Tuesday, 29 December 2009 by Speed, source: Telegraph
Yes, we've heard it before and we'll probably hear it again. The Telegraph is reporting that videogames have outpaced movies in the UK, and this time the numbers include not only box office results but also sales of DVDs and Blu-ray discs.
In the twelve months to the end of September 2009, £1.73 billion was spent on video games, according to the data company GFK Chart-Track.

According to the UK Film Council exactly £1 billion was spent at the British box office during the same period, with a further £198 million spent on film titles released on DVD and Blu-ray.

This means that £500 million more was spent on video games than on films over the last 12 months.
Does this mean games are the biggest form of entertainment in the UK? Not yet. Apparently television (including DVD sales of television series, and cost of the license and satellite subscriptions) and music still rule the top spots.

For me yes it is, the quality of movies has been declining for ages now. I used to be such a movie buff, but I don't even bother going to the cinema anymore.
