Three games keep Activision-Blizzard afloat

Activision still around thanks to only three games?
Following the current crisis at Infinity Ward, an interesting note came out of Activision - Blizzard SEC filing: it seems the entire business of the company is being kept afloat by only three games!
"A significant portion of our revenues has historically been derived from products based on a relatively small number of popular franchises and these products are responsible for a disproportionately high percentage of our profits,"
The filing states that in 2009, 68% of net revenue for the company was received from Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Guitar Hero and World of Warcraft.

When we look at the total revenue for Blizzard, 98% of it came from World of Warcraft accounts. If WoW suddenly gets a major drop in intrest from gamers, there's little to keep Blizzard up & running.

And for Activision? Well, just imagine what would happen if Call of Duty, WoW or Guitar Hero don't pull off their usual huge sales? Disaster!

SC2 will be huge, trust me.
That beta is already better and more polished than 2/3 of the games out there when they go gold.

That explains why they mentioned wow was a risk.

It also explains why they are happy to put release dates but by months, they don't want to take any chances.

I agree that SC2 and D3 will both be big releases for blizzard, no second guessing the sales there!

Many online shops have started to promote Diablo 3 for pre-order here in the UK. They are suggesting that it'll be out during the Spring of 2010. I suppose we'll just to wait and see.
