Greg wilson also announced that amongst other things a new server system, new lobby, guilds, and more will be present. And to top it off: it's completely free!
For starters, it’s completely FREE!!! We’ve also created an entirely new lobby system, where players will be able to chat with each other, customize their armies and commanders, create and join matches and shop for new items in the store. The completely revamped tutorials and full single player campaign from the original retail COH are accessible here, as are things like Leaderboards and other to be determined items like Guilds (yes, they are coming!) and other unannounced features.
The lobby connects to a brand new server system, designed and built 100% by Relic. This isn’t all that exciting to look at but is really an amazing piece of technology. It’s a cluster system, meaning everyone is on the same ‘server’ and can play together. As the community grows we’ll be able to support them by simply adding more machines to the cluster. There are also a full set of tools that enable the Operations and Customer Service teams to monitor and tweak the settings to make sure we’re getting as much ‘up time’ as possible, manage the items catalog, map lists and lots of other important stuff.
