Duke: Forever is 2011!

Posted on Friday, 3 September 2010 by Speed, source: Fragland
It's true and it's official: "Forever" is actually 2011!

After 2K Games revealed today at PAX that Gearbox Software was working on Duke Nukem Forever, the official press release has now also hit the mailboxes of gaming sites all over the globe (including ours of course ;p):
2K Games and Gearbox Software announced today that forever is nearly here, as Duke Nukem Forever® will officially make its long-awaited debut for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Windows PC in calendar 2011.

Put on your sunglasses and prepare to step into the boots of Duke Nukem, whose legend has reached epic proportions in the years since his last adventure. The alien hordes are back and only Duke can save the world, again. Pig cops, alien shrink rays and enormous alien bosses won’t stop our hero from accomplishing his one and only goal: to save the world, save the babes and to be a bad-ass while doing it. The King of All Shooters is back with over-the-top weapons, massive aliens and unprecedented levels of interactivity. This game puts pedal to the metal and tongue firmly in cheek, among other places. Shoot hoops, lift weights, read adult magazines, draw crude messages on whiteboards or ogle one of the many beautiful women that populate Duke’s life; that is if you can pull yourself away long enough from kicking ass and taking names. Duke Nukem was and will forever be immortalized in gaming history, and this is his legend.
Of course Gearbox' Randy Pitchford also had something to say:
"Gearbox has enabled die-hard key Duke Nukem franchise builders and skilled veteran game makers to stand together and deliver. All gamers deserve a happy ending and after all of us gamers feeling the full range of emotions about Duke Nukem Forever, I am thrilled to be in a position with the trust, power and means to make it happen. Am I crazy? Balls of steel, baby, balls of steel!”
Speaking with the Wall Street Journal, Pitchford also stated that Gearbox started working on the game late last year, finishing off the work of 3D Realms:
According to Pitchford, Gearbox began finishing “Duke Nukem Forever” in late 2009. “Clearly the game hadn’t been finished at 3D Realms but a lot of content had been created,” he says. “The approach and investment and process at 3D Realms didn’t quite make it and it cracked at the end. With Gearbox Software we brought all those pieces together. It’s the game it was meant to be.”
Hail to the King, Baby!

Finally! And all it took was for the development to be moved away from 3D Realms to any other studio and things starts to happen! But that's how it's always been with 3D Realms...

Although ive no doubt this is real, and we'll actually see the game, too soon Anon above! You said when its launched!

Oh I forgive you though. Its pretty big news, but a little sad too cause it should be 3D realms releasing it. hate that Gearbox had to take over to get it finished. Not that I dont like Gearbox, Borderlands is absolutely awesome, and Im sure with keeping alot of the code from 3D Realms and just adding and finishing what they started, it will be great.

Just after all this time, bittersweet that it took another dev to finish it.

As one of the two non-believers, I shall be saving this link for the day they delay DNF due to the release of yet another new game engine...

If the development of DNF was still in the hands of 3DRealms I would be worried, so worried I wouldn't have posted the link (yet), but now that it's all in the hands of Gearbox Software I'm cool and relaxed...the game might experience normal minor delays like any other game but that's it - the game will launch in 2011, like promised, simply because it's no longer in the hands of 3DRealms! I'm surprised that studio survived as long as it did with the more-than-relaxed work-ethics...

They survived thanks to work on other titles like Prey and Max Payne (the original)

Perhaps, but in the case of Prey they didn't make it (develop), they just published it...but what I mean is, take a look at all the canceled projects, the list goes on and on, so lots of work (perhaps...) but little income...
