New Splinter Cell gets... delayed

Posted on Friday, 25 July 2008 by Speed, source: Eurogamer
Ubisoft has confirmed that Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction will not be seeing the light of day this year.

Despite Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot stating that the franchise is very important for the company, the publisher has decided to delay the game again, this time until its fiscal year 2009-10 which means the game will see release between 1st April 2009 and 31st March 2010.

This is what Yves Guillemot had to say during a conference call:

"Splinter Cell is a very important franchise for Ubisoft and we have high anticipation for this game. It is a major product and we want it to be able to catch all the gameplay opportunities it is offering to us today. There are lots of opportunities that we want to take and so that is why we can give [them] a little bit more time to make sure it can become a huge product."
Earlier this year rumours were flying around that Ubisoft was completely redesigning the game but the company denied that at the time. This new delay, however, seems to put some truth to those rumours...

I heard they canned what they had done so far and were going to use a different engine.
