X360 blu-ray rumours resurface
Citing market sources, Xbitlabs is reporting that Microsoft is planning to release an external Blu-ray disc player for its Xbox360.
None of the companies mentioned above have commented on the latest rumour so still take it with a grain of salt but with HD-DVD out of the picture (literally) and HD movies growing in popularity, Microsoft would be stupid not to go for Blu-ray just because it's got BD-Java interactive technology instead of its own HDi tech.
Toshiba-Samsung Storage Technology Corp., a joint venture between Samsung Electronics and Toshiba Corp., has been contracted to manufacture external Blu-ray disc drives for Microsoft Xbox 360 game console. While the exact specifications of the product are unknown, it is rumoured that Microsoft aims at $100 - $150 price-point for the device in order to compete against Sony PlayStation 3 with Xbox 360 + external Blu-ray drive combination
