LBP levels getting axed due to copyright violations

Don't try making a Mario hommage or it will be deleted
It seems that Sony is so afraid of copyright lawsuits they're actually deleting all custom-made LittleBigPlanet levels that refer to IP of any other company. And does Sony inform the creators of the levels that have been deleted? At the moment not.

The boards are already getting hammered (examples here, here and here) with gamers being outraged because of this and not without reason. People take days to pay hommage to Metal Gear Solid, Mario, Sonic and so on just to see their creations be removed.

I guess Sony would have done better to inform the world in advance that LBP would not allow any hints towards intellectual property of other companies.

I think this is going to bigger backlash then they expect. MANY people bought the game for this reason alone.

User created content has rarely been regulated like this. Why is it that people who own Spore can create replicas of IP not belonging to EA without consequence. Unless they are in someway breaking the law in their user content distribution system that is different from Spore then I don't see what good can come from a decision like this.

Not only are they hurting themselves by attaching negativity to one of the PS3's biggest games (right before the holiday season), but they are also setting up a precedent for other companies in the future when it comes to dealing with user created content mimicking IP.

Sony is going to lose money, and we lose content, GG

With how shitty the economy is you would have never imaged Sony to cock block their own sales like this.

Of course you could always think about something new yourself to build in LBP, so the game isn't worthless all of a sudden just because you cannot load up your Super Mario Stage 1.1 "Remake".

It's still annoying, but it doesn' ruin the game nor the editor.
