MMO Stronghold Kingdoms announced

Firefly is developing a new Stronghold game, it's not a straight up Stronghold 3 but Stronghold Kingdoms, also known as "the world's first castle-based MMO". Well, we haven't heard that one before. It will provide a mix of castlebuilding, real-time strategy and long-term management through a web interface and a standard PC client.
The Stronghold Kingdoms website is already up with lots of interesting tidbits, screenshots and an option to subscribe to the newsletter. Although it does look like it shares the graphics of Stronghold 1 and Stronghold Crusader there are enough hints at new features that this might not be a standard rehash like Stronghold Crusader: Extreme was.

The game is in closed alpha stage now and is planned to go into beta at the end of this year so that a final release in 2010 would be made possible. Stronghold Kingdoms is entirely self-funded by developers Firefly which isn't such a crazy idea since they already sold around five million Stronghold-related games.• Plan clever layouts for your villages to maximise their efficiency.
