Microsoft: don't buy second hand console
Larry Hryb, Programming Director at Microsoft, is warning people who buy a second hand Xbox360 as they seem to be running the risk of not being able to connect with Xbox Live.
Microsoft is fighting hard against pirates and modified Xbox consoles and as a result tons of bans from Xbox Live have been performed. Buying a second hand X360 therefore is a risk you may not want to take:
Microsoft is fighting hard against pirates and modified Xbox consoles and as a result tons of bans from Xbox Live have been performed. Buying a second hand X360 therefore is a risk you may not want to take:
"Our commitment to combat piracy and support safer and more secure gameplay for the more than 20 million members of our Xbox Live community remains a top priority,"
"All consumers should know that piracy is illegal, and that modifying their Xbox 360 console to play pirated discs, violates the Xbox Live terms of use, will void their warranty and result in a ban from Xbox Live.”
"The health of the video game business depends on customers paying for the genuine products and services they receive from manufacturers, retailers, and the third parties that support them."
"This would also be a good time to remind you that the warranty on an Xbox 360 console is not transferrable and if you purchase a used console that has been previously banned, you will not be able to connect to Xbox Live,"
You could reason that Microsoft isn't earning anything on second hand sales but we still want to suggest to be cautious when buying a second hand console as you really wouldn't want to be banned because you don't know who you're buying from."All consumers should know that piracy is illegal, and that modifying their Xbox 360 console to play pirated discs, violates the Xbox Live terms of use, will void their warranty and result in a ban from Xbox Live.”

Good on Microsoft. Pirated games, means no income for the game studios, and the people who work for them. Stop focusing on the Corporate demon, people work for these companies, earn a living pay the rent. I am sure they must be happy that people are obtaining the fruits of their work for free.
