Duke: Forever is 2011!
It's true and it's official: "Forever" is actually 2011!

After 2K Games revealed today at PAX that Gearbox Software was working on Duke Nukem Forever, the official press release has now also hit the mailboxes of gaming sites all over the globe (including ours of course ;p):
2K Games and Gearbox Software announced today that forever is nearly here, as Duke Nukem Forever® will officially make its long-awaited debut for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Windows PC in calendar 2011.
Put on your sunglasses and prepare to step into the boots of Duke Nukem, whose legend has reached epic proportions in the years since his last adventure. The alien hordes are back and only Duke can save the world, again. Pig cops, alien shrink rays and enormous alien bosses won’t stop our hero from accomplishing his one and only goal: to save the world, save the babes and to be a bad-ass while doing it. The King of All Shooters is back with over-the-top weapons, massive aliens and unprecedented levels of interactivity. This game puts pedal to the metal and tongue firmly in cheek, among other places. Shoot hoops, lift weights, read adult magazines, draw crude messages on whiteboards or ogle one of the many beautiful women that populate Duke’s life; that is if you can pull yourself away long enough from kicking ass and taking names. Duke Nukem was and will forever be immortalized in gaming history, and this is his legend.
Of course Gearbox' Randy Pitchford also had something to say:Put on your sunglasses and prepare to step into the boots of Duke Nukem, whose legend has reached epic proportions in the years since his last adventure. "Gearbox has enabled die-hard key Duke Nukem franchise builders and skilled veteran game makers to stand together and deliver. All gamers deserve a happy ending and after all of us gamers feeling the full range of emotions about Duke Nukem Forever, I am thrilled to be in a position with the trust, power and means to make it happen. Am I crazy? Balls of steel, baby, balls of steel!”
Speaking with the Wall Street Journal, Pitchford also stated that Gearbox started working on the game late last year, finishing off the work of 3D Realms:According to Pitchford, Gearbox began finishing “Duke Nukem Forever” in late 2009. “Clearly the game hadn’t been finished at 3D Realms but a lot of content had been created,” he says. “The approach and investment and process at 3D Realms didn’t quite make it and it cracked at the end. With Gearbox Software we brought all those pieces together. It’s the game it was meant to be.”

Oh I forgive you though. Its pretty big news, but a little sad too cause it should be 3D realms releasing it. hate that Gearbox had to take over to get it finished. Not that I dont like Gearbox, Borderlands is absolutely awesome, and Im sure with keeping alot of the code from 3D Realms and just adding and finishing what they started, it will be great.
Just after all this time, bittersweet that it took another dev to finish it.

I would like to point to this old Fragland.net link, because of the comments below the article itself, since I'm the Anon replying there:

As one of the two non-believers, I shall be saving this link for the day they delay DNF due to the release of yet another new game engine...

They survived thanks to work on other titles like Prey and Max Payne (the original)
