Star Wars: The Old Republic got 350k simultaneous gamers

Posted on Tuesday, 3 January 2012 by Speed, source: GI.biz
Bioware and Electronic Arts will no doubt be happy with the launch of their gigantic MMO, Star Wars: The Old Republic. The early reviews are quite positive, even if they don't give perfect scores.

Colin Sebastian from Baird Equity Research also has good news for George Lucas as according to him the launch is proof that multiple big MMOs can be viable at the same time.

He basis his statement on his own numbers which show that the new MMO is being played by about 350.000 simultaneous gamers.
We view the early success of Star Wars as an indication of a healthy MMO market. While there is likely some shifting of usage from Activision's World of Warcraft, we see a viable market for multiple million-user MMOs in the US and Europe.
EA stated that already over a million players have registered during the Christmas period. In combination with the loss of players from Blizzard's World of Warcraft, estimated at about 1.7 million since last Autumn, this clearly shows there's potential left.

Star Wars: The Old Republic was launched on December 20th including 30 days of free time. Anyone already hooked?

Been playing for a little while now and its great.

I play both WoW and Starwars, I have seen lots on comments in both games saying its just another Warcraft nothing new.

Yes, its an action bar based game that has skill trees and missions to go and accomplish but surely any on-line game needs that? Can you imagine a rpg game without it?

The levelling on Star Wars beats wow hands down, its amazing. Each class has its own storyline that is a major part of your character development and is extremely fun to play.

I dont have any level 50's yet so not sure how the end game compares but people have been saying in the game that you are encouraged to level alt's to progress your Legacy level. (I don't know what this is yet apart from you can pick a last name, all alts on your account will share the name)

I am loving it, different enough to make me continue playing WoW but interesting enough to make me pay for the subs :)
