id announces Quake Zero

Posted on Saturday, 4 August 2007 by Speed, source: eg
id Software has announced they've started up a second team of developers, and especially their first project will come as a big surprise to many.

They're planning to do a remake of Quake 3 Arena, the popular multiplayer shooter, but downloadable. On top of that it's also supposed to be free with advertising paying the bills. There's also talks about playing in your web browser but that isn't completely sure yet.

"We're eventually going to grow this to the point where we'll have a second team of 20 to 30 people," John Carmack said during his keynote address.

The idea of this experiment is to later on design a more extensive version of Quake Zero based on the id Tech 5 engine

Not really into Quake 3 but would love if releasing older titles in an updated and free version became a trend within the industry...fat chance but would still love it...

Oh crap. Not again.
There's so much mp fps games, but few good sp games.
Starbreeze studios is one of the few good developers who understand how to make brilliant SP fps game.

IMHO, no multiplayer game has had the gameplay that q3 had. Not even q4, it just felt different from good ol' q3. As Carmack says in his video on www.quakezero.com, most q3 players played it with all messed up gfx anyway (me included) just to get an edge in FPS or edge on spotting the enemy. I would love to see the game rereleased, and love to see a large q3 community again!
