id hires award-winning writer for Doom 4
Doom 3 had a storyline that went little further than "monster jumps out of the closet when you turn your back". To counter such criticism with Doom 4, id Software has announced they've hired British Fantasy award winning author Graham Joyce.
Joyce has the following to say:
Anyway, Joyce has written 14 novels and 22 short stories so we can suspect he knows what he's doing and the fact that he's won the British Fantasy Awards only concurs with that. Let's hope he's got some Doom knowledge.

But a very needed step IMO, development has moved away from the original DOOM concept so more story/substance is needed, so good call by id!
