Nintendo: we’re not going to make something Call of Duty
Speaking with The Independent, Nintendo president Satoru Iwata has made it clear that they will not be making anything like Call of Duty on the Wii U. If you want something like that on their upcoming platform, it will have to come from third parties:
You shouldn’t be expecting Call of Duty-like games to be offered from Nintendo. For that type of game my belief is that, if there are companies out there who can do this very well, then instead of us try to do it this, or to compete with them, it would be better to have them do it on our platforms, so to invite them and to support them to offer this kind of entertainment on our platform
Since the very beginning, Nintendo has been claiming that the Wii U won’t be a successor to the Wii, but rather a different console that’s more focused towards “Hardcore Gamers”. However, it’s now more than ever clear that if you want something different than Mario and the likes, you shouldn’t expect Nintendo to be delivering it. Ever.
