Paranormal Activity

Katie and Micah have started living together but soon after they’ve moved in, strange things start to happen. When Katie tells Micah that this isn’t the first time that she’s experienced paranormal phenomena, she calls in Psychic Fredrichs who tells them there’s clearly a demon that’s following Katie. Micah doesn’t really buy into the entire paranormal and buys a camera so he can follows what’s going on when they’re asleep. But as time progresses, things start to become more and more creepy…

Sound and Vision:
Just like in The Blair Witch Project, we follow the story through the camera of one of the lead cast. This makes that things look very amateurish but that’s exactly the point. Therefore it’s really difficult to say anything about the image quality as it’s how it’s supposed to be.

The sound does an excellent job with supporting what you see on the screen and while most of the time things are a bit toned down, the effects nicely use the surround speakers and subwoofer when necessary. Especially towards the ending the sound highly increases the atmosphere and really makes the movie creepy.

Alternate Ending

Conclusion:
Paranormal Activity has been hyped a lot and even the trailers were more focused towards the reaction of the audience than what’s actually going on on the screen. And that was a splendid choice as in fact there isn’t that much going on at all. The entire movie works on atmosphere and does it very well. Things start off slowly but as time progresses, you’re really drawn into the atmosphere and the slightest sound makes you jump from your chair.

In short: the perfect movie to watch with your girlfriend on a Friday evening! She’ll be sure to snuggle tightly against you!
