Battlefield 1942: Road to Rome (Pc)
Battlefield 1942 was a huge hit in 2002 so an expansion was the least EA could do to satisfy the hunger for "more" which anxious players were experiencing.
While the original Battlefield 1942 had a great single player campaing along with good multiplayer possibility, the upcoming expansion pack "Road to Rome" will focus more on multiplayer.
Players will be able to play together with a maximum of 64 at the same time and choose to fight on six new maps including Operation Husky and the battles for Anzio and Monte Cassino. The expansion's sole focus is on the Italian and Sicilian campaigns of World War 2 where the landing in Normandy was the main focus in the original game. Still, a new beach landing will be available.
Maps will contain smaller area's, creating a much more intense fighting as players will constantly have to battle each other to obtain ground.
Next to the original vehicles which were at our disposal, we'll see 8 new ones appearing including the German BF-110 and British Mosquito twin-engined fighter-bombers. Also debuting are Italian and new British and German tanks and anti-tank guns. New hand-held weapons include the Italian Breda assault rifle, British Sten SMG and bayonets on rifles. Of course also all original vehicles and weapons stay at your disposal, but the new ones will not be backward compatible to the original game.
New fighting forces for you to choose out will be the Italian army and the "Free French Forces" (FFF ;p)
Next to the whole multiplayer part, also a single player campaign will be present, although that is not the main focus of the expansion, with improved AI and use of the new maps that are provided in the expansion. Unfortunately not much is known about the storyline of this new campaign so we'll just have to wait until the expansion gets released in the beginning of 2003.
