Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (Playstation 3)
In four months EA and DICE want to release a game that has multiplayer that's as good as that from Modern Warfare 2, if not better. One hell of a task if you ask me, but luckily EA is prepared and - most of all - well in time with its multiplayer beta.
Battlefield: Bad Company 2 may be able to convince the ten million CoD players to take the DVD/Blu-ray out of their console or PC and try something else.

The multiplayer beta of Bad Company 2 is (currently) exclusively available on the PS3 and contains only one mode and a giant map, Arica Harbour. In Rush Mode you need to destroy tactical points as the offensive party, while the others need to defend these. Before, the mode was called Gold Rush so nothing new under the sun there.
One of the things where Bad Company differs from other shooters are the destructable environments. Almost everything can be taken down which makes hiding places all but a certain protection against bullets that are flying around. It asks for a different tactical approach and makes you being constantly on the move.
Just like with its predecessor you can choose from a series of vehicles that can be used practically for both offense as well as defense. Fast vehicles like quads are ideal to cross large distances, while the tank is a true power beast. New here is the remotely controllable helicopter which you control from your base and use for exploration as well as offensive means. Also the weapons arsenal has been extended and each weapon can be adjusted to your liking.
Before you enter the arena you need to choose from four different classes: Recon, Assault, Medic and Engineer. Each has unique features, weapons and gear but personally I found the engineer to be a bit overpowered at the moment and has it easier to get XP than other classes. The perks of Modern Warfare are found back in the shape of specialisations and although the choice is more limited than with the competition, it does offer plenty of combinations.
Teamwork and squads remain important key words in this franchise and cooperation usually leads to victory. When respawning you always end up near your squad so that the action hardly ever gets broken and you immediately can come to the aid of your team members.
Technically the multiplayer is already quite well done out with hardly any lag, a fast matchmaking and clear menus. Graphically Bad Company 2 has made a big step forward and especially the way buildings and trees have to cope with gravity is well worked out.
Judging by the multiplayer beta Battlefield: Bad Company 2 seems to become a good game. The gameplay is rock solid and the destructable environments make the game more realistic. The deep reward system and the extensive ranking only heighten hunger to another fast game. Nothing is known about the single player yet, but this will probably be equally good as its predecessor. By March 2010 DICE will be delivering again a top title!
