Call of Duty: United Offensive (Pc)
Let's go back a little to the history of Call of Duty: 2015 created Medal of Honor: Allied Assault which got published by EA and became a huge hit on the pc. Electronic Arts decided to incorporate 2015 into their own organisation and once the company was bought, a whole bunch of people left to form a new development studio called Infinity Ward.
These guys created yet another WW2 first person shooter which again became a big success in 2003: Call of Duty, published by Activision.
Now, Infinity Ward has been acquired by Activision but unlike when EA took over 2015, people are not fleeing like hell to get away.
In fact, Activision is making sure their Call of Duty franchise remains popular and next to releasing patches with extra maps, a console version (Finest Hour) and a PC expansion called United Offensive are in the works.
The biggest difference between the original game and this pc expansion is obviously that it's not being developed by Infinity Ward but Gray Matter Studio's, the guys who previously brought us Return to Castle Wolfenstein. The reason that it isn't IW who are making this expansion is because they are in fact working on another project for Activision of which no information has yet been reveiled (we did our best but the people from Activision were quite good in keeping their lips tight)
United Offensive will again feature three campaigns like the original game; American, Russian and British. The goal this time will be to push back the German troops so you won't have to free Berlin. Instead, the campaigns will feature the Battle of Kurks for the Russians, Battle of the Bulge for the American campaign, and the British will have you fight in Northern Africa (Raid on Rommel ?)
Gray Matter isn't only working on new content for the game but is also adding quite a lot of improvements. You'll have a lot more vehicle interaction and in multiplayer you can expect vehicle use much like in Medal of Honor. In the single player campaign vehicles will also be present of course and one of the most impressive things we've seen was a battle in mid-air where you are part of the crew of a bomber and have to make sure the plane reaches its destination and drops its bombs; Instense fighting but combined with tactics and thinking.
Graphically things have very much improved aswell. Gray Matter have implemented a new particle system which will increase reality and from what we've seen it looks awesome! Grenades that explode throw around dust all around and the demonstration we got from the Battle for Kursk really showed just how great the explosions looked. I doubt there will be any comments on the graphical parts of the expansion.
Of course, an expansion wouldn't be an expansion if there weren't any new weapons available so Gray Matter went out to look in the archives and found for all factions some additional weaponry that should make things a bit more interesting while still keeping balance between the different sides. Let's just hope the British troops will have better arms this time so that in multiplayer they won't suck that hard :)
Anyway, we've seen about 10 to 15 minutes of actual gameplay demonstrated by Activision and my hands started to itch just by watching. I want this expansion and I want it NOW !
