Condemned: Criminal Origins was one of the few Xbox 360 launch games, which had a lasting impression on the player. A paranormal first person shooter had been developed before, but the main difference with this FPS was that the majority of combat was done with your hands! Monolith wants to build further on this with Condemned 2: Bloodshot.
In this sequel you will once again play with Ethan Thomas, who has become a homeless alcoholic a year after the first game. When your former partner goes missing, it’s time to pick up your job as a SCU(Serial Crime Unit) investigator and rediscover the hidden world. One of the major features in the first game was the melee combat. This gave you the feeling that you were really there and the developers also knew this. The biggest improvement in this area is the combo system. If you time your hits you will be able to do several bonus attacks, like an uppercut or headstomp. If your opponent still survives these attacks, you can grab him and smash his head in a television screen or against a dumpster. Of course there are still fire arms in the game, but if you have to choose between shooting someone or beat him to dead with a brick, the choice is quickly made!
The gruesome fighting wasn't not the only positive point of this game, you also had the forensics part. In the first Condemned it was quite basic, but in this sequel the devs are expanding it completely. To give an example: you end up in a factory and while being in one of the rooms you need to tell your partner in which factory you are. In the room there are tons of data, like a map, posters and several other documents. If you can find the right answer from the start you will be awarded by the complete amount of points for that situation. With these points you can unlock several collectibles in the main menu of the game. With this they want to reward the player who tries to enjoy the game and not just rush it.
An improvement of the singleplayer was not enough, because a complete multiplayer has been added as well. You will be able to choose out of four game modes: you have the normal deathmatch and team deathmatch, but there are also two special game modes. The first one is called ‘Bum Rush’ and in this mode two stronger SC agents need to survive a given amount of time against the six other players. The second game mode is ‘Crime Scene’, in which the SCU team needs to find and scan two decapitated heads. The other team, the Influenced cam move these heads around to keep them from getting to them.
After the presentation of the SEGA event i have high expectations of this game. Gruesome fighting, better graphics and sound and a complete multiplayer should make this game a worthy sequel.
